Mindset: It’s one of the most important components to ANY business owner’s success, and one of the top things leaders like Tony Robbins and Brendon Burchard will tell you is crucial to getting what you want.
Mindset is a non-negotiable, must have practice for success.
So where do you start?
How do you create a success-based mindset that will ACTUALLY help you reach your goals?
Mindset and visibility strategist, Susi Käufer, shares her proven mindset strategies that helped her create a location independent business that she now shares with her private clients.
Step #1: Write out your goals every day
Whether she’s sitting atop a mountain in Thailand, overlooking the vast, vivid green jungles or digging her toes into the sparkling beaches of Australia, Susi starts every day off with writing her goals in her journal—and she encourages you to do the same.
This practice keeps you focused on the goals at hand, and allows you to connect with your goals in a full body, emotionally connected way—which is also what helps you identify the limiting beliefs you have around your goals.
Step #2: Identify what about your goal doesn’t feel possible for you
It’s really difficult to change what you don’t acknowledge, which as a business owner means you can’t get to the next level if you don’t find out what’s holding you back.
One of Susi’s favorite goal smashing exercises to do with clients is to take their goals, multiply them by ten, and then have her client reflect why they don’t feel those goals are possible for them.
Once you uncover the limiting belief, you can start finding the evidence that proves the belief false, and you can move forward again.
Like Susi says, “There’s so much more for all of us than we think we can have or are allowed to have or are worthy of having.”
Step #3: Break your goals down
“People confuse money mindset with money goals,” Susi tells me. “Then when they don’t reach this big goal at the end of the month, they feel like they’ve failed.”
Whenever you have a goal that feels like a stretch, don’t immediately start running toward that goal. Every time you fail to reach it, you re-enforce why you cannot have what you want. That only sets you back.
Instead, focus on a goal you can reach confidently. Then once you reach that, set another goal to stretch a little further.
For example, “If you have a $20,000 goal and feel confident you can make $7,000 easily, start with the $7,000.
Then if it’s the 10th of the month and you already hit your goal, go for $10,000.
I like to keep it kind of in a step-by-step process to get you there, instead of having this big manifestation goal and then you focus on the how.
Because when you focus on the how, then the whole flow kind of gets stuck because it’s not only about how to make this money happen, it’s about how you serve your clients and how you serve your audience.”
Step #4: Ask yourself what future you would do, and do that
Action is where the transformation happens, and is the core of mindset work.
Mindset work is not sitting around contemplating how you feel and what you think.
Mindset work is all about discovering thoughts and feelings you weren’t aware you had, and taking action to shift those limiting beliefs so you can actually reach your goals.
The best thing you can do is ask your future self what they would be doing right now to achieve the goal, and then go take those actions.
Step #5: Beware of the inspired ideas that hold you back
A common form of self-sabotage for business owners, entrepreneurs, and creatives is the “inspired idea”.
Expression and creativity are key for success, but often an inspired idea will present itself when you’re on the path of success to distract you from the growth.
Here’s how you tell the difference:
Resistance puts space between you and the goal (and often comes from a space of not being good enough, not being ready, or needing to prove yourself).
To make sure your inspired ideas support your goals instead of keeping you from them, Susi says, “Get clear on your big vision every single day. So whenever you have an inspired idea, you look at ‘does it bring me closer to my goal or does it send me in the other direction?’”
There is a balance between inspiration, creativity, expression, and discipline that helps you achieve success on your terms.
